Having had the privilege of working with DSLR cameras for more than a decade, I've experienced many models, from beginner to professional models. - 24MP Resolution: As someone who primarily shoots product photos for e-commerce, having a high-resolution sensor was crucial. The 24MP sensor on the SL3 allows me to take a single shot and crop it extensively without losing detail. This is a game-changer compared to my older Rebel models, which required multiple shots to achieve the same level of detail.
- Hinged Touchscreen: The vari-angle LCD screen was a definite necessity. Taking photos of products on the ground or at odd angles is a breeze when you can adjust the screen to compose your shot. This alone saved me hours and hours and aches and pains.
- Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Connectivity: It was a big advantage being able to transfer files wirelessly and being able to control the camera remotely. It made my workflow more efficient and did away with unnecessary cables taking up space on my desk.
- 18-55mm Lens Kit: Although I already have a few Canon lenses at home, the bundled 18-55mm lens surprisingly came in handy. The refined manual focus ring was an added bonus, as it made it easier to make adjustments to my shots.

Vari-Angle Touchscreen: A Lifesaver for Creative Angles
The 3.0-inch vari-angle touchscreen is one of my favorite features. Whether I’m shooting from a low angle or framing a shot overhead, the ability to tilt and swivel the screen makes composing shots a breeze. It’s also responsive and intuitive, allowing me to quickly adjust settings or review images without fumbling through menus.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: Seamless Connectivity
Connecting the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth was easy, and it has really enhanced my workflow. I can now send images directly to my smartphone or computer, and the auto file naming (YY-MM-DD-filename) keeps everything in order. Being able to utilize the camera as a webcam is a plus, although I have not delved into this aspect much yet.
18-55mm Lens: Better Than Expected
I'll be honest, I didn't take to the 18-55mm kit lens initially. I've had similar lenses before, and they tend to feel lightweight and plasticky. But the one that was included with the SL3 pleasantly surprised me. The focus ring is smooth and has a nice amount of resistance, making it simpler to get sharp focus. It's not a professional lens by any means, but it does an excellent job for everyday photography and product shooting.

Image Stabilization: Shooting Handheld Becomes a Breeze
The in-camera stabilization is a savior when photographing handheld. I could produce tack-sharp images at as low as a 1/15s shutter speed, and that's respectable for a camera at this cost. Though I still like employing a tripod with important shots, it's reassuring to know the camera can also be trusted on its own.
Video Capabilities: Good, but Not Great
The SL3 shoots 1080p Full HD video, which is more than adequate for my needs. However, if you’re a videographer looking for 4K capabilities, you’ll need to look at higher-end models like the Canon EOS 90D or EOS R series. That said, the video quality is still excellent, and the Dual Pixel CMOS AF ensures smooth and accurate focus tracking during recording.
User Interface and Software: Simple and Effective
The menu system is clear and simple to use, even for a newcomer to Canon cameras. I like the fact that there's included Canon's EOS Utility software, making remote shots possible along with easy file transfer. Connecting the camera to several devices (desktop, laptop, iPad, and iPhone) was easy, although I had to download the Canon Camera Connect app on my mobile devices.

It's especially good for product photography, with its high-res sensor, vari-angle touchscreen, and effortless connectivity options. It lacks some of the frills of higher-end models, but it's an absolute steal for the price.
If you’re looking for a capable DSLR that won’t break the bank, the Canon EOS Rebel SL3 is definitely worth considering. It’s not perfect, but it’s a solid performer that gets the job done.
